the art of storytelling

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • What is "The Art of Storytelling" Coaching Service?

The Art of Storytelling is an online coaching service designed specifically for Black authors in the romance and urban fiction genres. My goal is to help you elevate your writing by adding depth to your worldbuilding and developing more realistic, multidimensional characters.

  • Who is this coaching service for?

This service is intended for Black authors who already have a strong grasp of the fundamentals of writing. You should be comfortable with grammar and sentence structure and be looking to add depth to your story. If you're a writer who needs a lot of direction or isn't confident with the basics, this may not be the best fit for you at this time.

  • What will the coaching sessions cover?

Each session focuses on worldbuilding and bringing your characters to life. I will work with you to ensure your stories are immersive and that your characters are complex, real, and engaging. These sessions are specifically designed to help deepen your storytelling, but other areas of writing (such as grammar or sentence structure) will not be covered.

  • Class duration?

This program will run for six weeks.

  • How long are the sessions?

Each session will last one hour.

  • How often will we meet?

I will be available for coaching sessions once a week, every Wednesday afternoon.

  • What is the cost of the service?

This is a paid service that will begin after the initial free round. Currently, I am offering free coaching to three talented writers to refine the process, but once this round is completed, the service will be available for paid clients. Pricing will be shared after the free round.

  • Are there any prerequisites?

Yes! To ensure that we can focus on deepening your storytelling rather than basics, I require that all applicants have a solid grasp of grammar and sentence structure. You should already have a good skill level and be looking to refine your craft—specifically in worldbuilding and character development.

  • Will the sessions be recorded?

Yes, all sessions will be recorded so that you can review the content later at your convenience.

  • Do I need to prepare anything for the sessions?

It would be helpful for you to bring any parts of your current work that you’d like feedback on. And tools for note taking. I'll also provide worksheets to help guide our sessions and ensure you're able to apply what we've discussed.

  • What platform will be used for the sessions?

The sessions will be conducted online, either via Zoom or Google Meet. Both platforms are free to use and can be accessed from any device with an internet connection.

  • Will I receive anything other than coaching sessions?

Yes! Along with the coaching, you’ll receive worksheets that you can use to strengthen the concepts we discuss in each session. These worksheets will help you apply the techniques we talk about to your own writing.

  • How do I sign up?

Please stay tuned for updates on when I’ll be opening the service for paid clients. In the meantime, I’m offering coaching spots to three writers for free in exchange for feedback on the process.
